Being in the mood for a nice relaxing pipe, I pulled this back out today and was once again surprised by how good this blend is. A man who serves his government is an employee. Went to the Mac Baren display fist and loaded up. As The German said below, it makes me smile. Very user-friendly, fast burning, with hints of smokiness and spice but only hints , and more nicotene than I expected, it really was rather enjoyable. I can feel the anger from our Canadian bros already!. In the tin, this wide, rough cut blend has, as another reviewer perfectly described, the distinctly briny aroma of fermented olives.
Will it be in my rotation? Winner, winner, chicken dinner. A very pleasant smoke. Because of this experience I have to thank the Pipestud for that Irish Harp pipe, I will never look at it the same way again. This is the blend that stopped me from smoking a pipe till now, and that was 2 years ago. The olive smell is not detectable in taste anymore. Delicious slightly-sweet, mildly smokey taste.
Aromatic Choice Strength I A tender and pleasant aroma with a fruity, aromatic taste that does not burn your tongue. This is a special blend of choice, fully ripe Burley and matured Virginia tobaccos. And it smokes to the bottom leaving only grey ashes. They will meet all expectations in terms of what is expected from it earthy and hay like notes, subdued sweetness, etc. Room note is some what civil since no one at the home front complained. This one took a while to grow on me but grown it has now. A truly pleasing and satisfying smoke for anyone who appreciates a good pipe of tobacco.
Cellar like a hoarder. And, also like well aged straight Virginia, the flavor deepens and offers a variety of sensations as the tobacco is consumed. I will never touch anything from Mac Baren again. PS - One reviewer described this as a goopy mess and an over the top aromatic. While advertised as topping free, a sweet licorice taste shows up. A full bodied blend made of equal proportions air-cured, flue cured, and dark fired. I had high hopes for this rough ribbon cut aged Virginia and I was not disappointed!
